Volumetric weight
Calculate volumetric weight
A large, light box occupies space like a heavier one. Some services use volumetric weight. Calculate two examples from your packed dimensions; neither divisor is a verified factor for a particular bookable service.

The formula
Volumetric weight = length × width × height in centimetres ÷ divisor. A 40 × 30 × 20 cm box is 4.8 kg with divisor 5000, or 4 kg with divisor 6000. A service using volumetric weight commonly compares it with actual weight, but the applicable divisor and rules depend on the carrier, service and contract.
Pack efficiently
Choose a close-fitting box without sacrificing protection, reduce unnecessary height, and measure after packing. Enter the actual outside dimensions and packed weight for a real quote.
Frequently asked questions
- What is girth?
- For the displayed DPD rules, girth is the longest side plus twice the other two sides: L + 2W + 2H.
- Can I book anything shown as within these limits?
- No. This is an indicative comparison of published limits. Actual available services, prices and conditions come from the shipping calculator.
